Philadelphia’s The Describers Explore the Equally Important Existential Crises of the World’s End and a Lil’ Bit of Traffic in New Single

‘Home on Time (Sunrise)’ Available to Stream and Download May 20

In a free association exercise gone wrong, The Describers try to find the balance and commonalities between the apocalypse and minutiae in the Philadelphia outfit’s new single “Home On Time (Sunrise).”

Caught somewhere between the pain of double-parked cars in front a popular cheesesteak joint and the face-melting pain of nuclear fission, The Describers confront these equally existential crises with the import, care and reverence each deserves.

“This truly was a fun songwriting challenge,” said Jason McGovern, founder and leader of The Describers. “Both in terms of narrative and structure, it really was a game of free association and escalation.”

“Home on Time (Sunrise)” was largely recorded and mixed by McGovern in his home studio,Eel Diner Jukebox, though he also did significant work at Retro City Studios in Philadelphia with Matty Muir. It also features drums performed and recorded by Eric Slick (Dr. Dog) and was mastered by Ryan Schwabe (Beach Bunny, Slaughter Beach Dog, Hop Along).

McGovern has been releasing music and performing as and with The Describers since 2018. He also collaborates with other artists in the Philadelphia area representing a wide range of styles, most recently playing keyboards for The Tisburys. He also served as co-producer for their 2025 record “A Still Life Revisited.”

Home on Time (Sunrise)” is available to stream and download May 20.
